Political Stability, Confidence in the Future, and Values

According to the literature, modernization is associated with cultural change along two value dimensions: from survival self-expression/emancipative values and traditional secular-rational values. This has generally been viewed as product of both material non-material forces; however, previous studies have used mainly proxies for non-material, social, psychological variables. Instead, in this paper, we propose test a modified theoretical model that allows us assess direct indirect effects conditions, such economic wealth political stability, on emancipative secular by including variables capture factors, respondents’ fears about their future possible destabilization systems which they live. We conduct empirical analyses at individual level, using cross-sectional data World Values Survey, aggregate level. Both sets revealed stability system are single most significant determinant change.
